What is the BSAA?

BSAA is the acronym for Buxton School Alum Association, Inc..  An incorporated non-profit organization by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts promulgated under Massachusetts General laws, Chapter 180

Is the organization registered with the IRS?

Yes, as a Section 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

What is the stated purpose of the BSAA?

“To promote the education and well being of students enrolled in the college preparatory school known as Buxton School located 291 South Street, Williamstown Massachusetts. (the “School”)

“To work cooperatively with the School to ensure its long-term financial stability and help the School’s students and alumni, past, current and future, realize their potential

“To develop united efforts among educators, parents, and alumni in order to secure progressive, student-centered education as developed by Ellen Geer Sangster.

“To act as a resource for parents, educators, and alumni regarding the School and to coordinate efforts in support of the students and alumni.”

Who can be a member of the BSAA?

The BSAA is open to all individuals who have attended or graduated from The Buxton School, in Williamstown, Mass.

How is the BSAA organized?

The By-laws of the BSAA calls for a Board of Directors. Initially, the Board shall consist of between 7 to 15 members. See Article 3 of the BSAA by-laws. The board of Directors are currently:

Are there Executive Officers?

Yes, the by-laws of the BSAA call for a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and a Clerk elected by the members of the Board.  See Article #4 of the BSAA by-laws.

Do I need to attend meetings in person?

No, Due to the international presence of Buxton students from around the world, business and meetings have been held virtually.

  • Membership - Growing our member base, tracking down lost Alum and working with Buxton on outreach to increase engagement with Buxton and the BSAA.  

  • Communications - Writing content for email distribution to alums, BSAA newsletters, website copy and content, press releases

  • Engagement -  Organizing Alum events from virtual Zoom gatherings to in person meet ups, regional renions, local get togethers, networking, mentorship for recent grads, etc.  

  • Technology - Developing and managing membership data, the BSAA website, email distribution, and anything else involving technology. 

  • Finance - Managing BSAA operating funds and expenses, filing reports, taxes and all things financial for the BSAA. 

  • Development -  Raising BSAA operating funds, supporting Buxton fundraising campaigns and assisting with virtual and in-person events.
